The Stonewall riots began on this day in 1969. It is widely accepted that this was the start of the modern Pride movement.

54 years ago today, LGBTQ+ individuals stood up to police brutality at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. With drag queens and Trans women of color at the forefront of that fight, the #StonewallRiots sparked a liberation movement that continues to this day.
53 years ago today, the #StonewallRiots occurred.
I’d like to directly recognize black trans women in this moment, because it was a black trans woman who started this movement.
We owe black trans women more than we give them. We owe them the lives we have today.
#DragQueens helped start the #StonewallRiots In 1969 which began the #LGBTQ #CivilRights Movement

On 28th June 1969, an uprising took place at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. As it was raided by the police in the early hours, three nights of unrest followed, with LGBTQ+ people, long frustrated by police brutality, finally fighting back.

Let's honor the brave spirits of Marsha P. Johnson and Stormé Delarverie, catalysts of the Stonewall Riots in 1969. Their resistance against injustice ignited a movement that evolved into the vibrant #PrideParades we cherish today. 🖤🌈✊🏾 #StonewallRiots #LGBTQ +History

🏳️🌈✊ #Orgullo2021 #StonewallRiots
Today we reflect on the sacrifices made by LGBTQ+ Americans, led by trans women of color, during the #StonewallRiots .
As anti-trans violence continues to rise, we must do more.
We can begin by passing the #EqualityAct into law.
Today we remember the Stonewall uprising in NYC, which serves as an annual reminder that the people have the power to win against tyranny. #Stonewall Riots #Stonewall

On June 28th, 1969… Our LGBTQIA2+ community fought against the aggresses it so often laid down upon us.
Bills and laws are being passed that severely hurts our community. I wear this jacket today to honor this day. 👊🌈🏳️⚧️
