For this week's I chose to focus on how far-reaching plastic pollution is and drew a snailfish swimming past a plastic bag at the bottom of the Mariana Trench

WIP for of a barracuda.

Plastic pollution is not necessarily something visible and microplastics can be present in huge amounts in some fish species.

Happy almost Earth Day! 🌎

I chose a bluegill for this weeks theme. Marine fishes aren’t the only ones impacted by plastic pollution.

Late night . Tried out some pixel art!

The theme this week is 'Fish affected by plastic pollution'. It is not uncommon to find sharks, such as this Bull shark, with plastic rings caught around their heads, injuring/ deforming the sharks as they grow. 🦈

The Blue Shark (Prionace glauca) representing the “imperiled by plastic.” According to research, they’re a marine species of high concern due to their threatened status, vulnerability to overfishing, and frequent plastic ingestion.

Monday is 2024 and the commitment this year is focused on reduction of wasteful plastics. The echos this desire and asks that you illustrate fishes ‘imperiled by plastic’ in the hopes of forwarding EarthDay’s impactful statement.

For 'fishes imperiled by plastics' , I was inspired by the friendly VisitPalau reps I met Friday. Palau is a leader in fighting plastic pollution, and 'mesekuuk'—the Takinged word for Acanthurus xanthopterus—are a Palauan symbol of action thru unity!
