Just finished reading (again). Well worth a read. Not sure if Sydney Barnes would have liked to be seen as a spinner. Some good insights into the minds of the Twirlymen

Ajantha Mendis' debut Test wicket of Rahul Dravid is as befuddling Shane Warne's legendary ball to Mike Gatting. As Amol Rajan points out in 'Twirlymen', Dravid's reaction was very similar to Gatting. The carrom ball castled one of the finest Test batsmen.

The upside of being delayed 13 hours (for a sub-hour flight) is that you get to catch up on books.

Reading Amol Rajan's Twirlymen (so far, an excellent history of spin bowling) and this rang all too true. (When I was captain, I usually had to convince myself I wasn't nuts!) 🏏
