Have been spending a LOT of time looking at the magnificent tympanum at Conques lately, with its spell-binding depiction of the Last Judgement. Although absolutely stunning as it is now, it was once a captivating riot of technicolour 🌈😍 #TympanumTuesday

The fantastic 12thC tympanum at St Edmund's, Egleton is full of character. Two winged creatures (possibly a wyvern and a dragon) support a flower like wheel with horned beastie heads either side.

I went for a refreshing visit to the 12C St John’s, Elkstone, Gloucestershire and it was as good as ever. For #TympanumTuesday here’s Christ on a cushioned throne with the evangelists’ symbols around him. And superb beakheads.

#TympanumTuesday Painted tympanum at Markov Monastery, Markova Susica, Northern Macedonia. St Demetrius. Mid 14thC.
Detail from Romanesque north door arch #StAndrewDurnford . Described as 'shuttlecock' are these flies or bees? Bees have always had cultural significance since antiquity. Did the Roman love for bees persist through the Conquest? #TympanumTuesday
