“I wish you peace and hope. Stick together with your loved ones.” Many of you have been asking after Valentina. She spoke to me from Kursk about her new life, new job and how touched she’s been by the messages she’s received.

“It’s time to say goodbye to the kiosk.” Valentina is leaving Moscow and going home to Kursk. In a world turned upside down, her newspaper kiosk has been an island of sanity for me. I’ll miss her. This is the story of her last day at work.

One year ago Valentina said goodbye to her newspaper kiosk and left Moscow. I've missed my daily conversations with her. Here's a reminder of Valentina's final day at work.

On St Valentine’s Day, here’s a reminder of Valentina. I miss her very much, and her kiosk. Last February she wrote me a poem. We were both full of smiles that day. A few hours later Russia invaded Ukraine and the world changed.

I’ve spoken to Valentina. She asked me to send everyone her very best wishes. I do miss my chats with her down at the newspaper kiosk. Here’s one I still think about: when Valentina opened up about her family.

I miss Valentina. Her stories at the newspaper kiosk often made me laugh. But not always. In episode 41 she told me about her parents. “My father was a heavy drinker. He subjected my mother to abuse.”

Valentina, who used to work in the newspaper kiosk down the road, sent me this greeting from Kursk. Thank you Valentina, and thanks to everyone who sent birthday wishes last week.

I’ll be away from Russia for a few days. A good moment to recall newspaper vendor Valentina’s story from 2021 about the only time she's been to the seaside.

This has been a wonderful occasional series; if you have a little time in your hands search by the hashtag and watch some of the videos. Lovely little vignettes of everyday life, so uplifting and cheering 😀 Spasibo Steve!

is one of the sweetest series of videos on Twitter. If I ever go to Russia, I would love to visit the kiosk and say hello to Valentina.

Not exactly W&P related but thought my fellow readers might like to meet . BBC Moscow correspondent Steve Rosenberg regularly tweets chats with his local kiosk vendor, Valentina. One of the loveliest things on Twitter. ❤️

“No!” I’ve just muttered on a cursory glance here on a rail journey through British suburbia. What are we to do without ? I’ll miss her. And I’ll miss the reflected glow of Steve Rosenberg’s friendship.
