#ViennaMechanism is a tool to follow up OSCE commitments on #HumanRights & to promote accountability by posing questions to States on implementation.

We demand a response from Russia regarding these serious concerns & remain committed to following up on these issues.

One year ago, Prof. Benedek published a report on human rights violations in #Belarus , following the launch of the OSCE #MoscowMechanism by 17 States including 🇫🇷.

With the #ViennaMechanism , 35 States urge today 🇧🇾 authorities to implement the report’s recommendations.

Today at OSCE Perm.Council 4️⃣1️⃣ states, incl 🇸🇮 invoked #ViennaMechanism regarding political prisoners in 🇷🇺. Particularly grave concern is the growing number of human rights defenders, civil society leaders, political opponents and critics of the 🇷🇺's war against Ukraine.

10 days have passed. No response from the Russian Federation. Moscow had 10 days to provide answers to 41 OSCE participating States, who - deeply concerned about the plight of Russia’s political prisoners - had invoked the OSCE’s #ViennaMechanism . Maybe the Kremlin was too busy…

Today 35 #OSCE states 🇦🇱🇦🇹🇧🇪🇧🇬🇨🇦🇭🇷🇨🇾🇨🇿🇩🇰🇪🇪🇫🇮🇫🇷🇩🇪🇬🇷🇭🇺🇮🇸🇮🇪🇮🇹🇱🇻🇱🇹🇱🇺🇲🇹🇲🇪🇳🇱🇲🇰🇳🇴🇵🇹🇷🇴🇸🇰🇸🇮🇪🇸🇨🇭🇬🇧🇺🇦🇺🇸 invoked the #ViennaMechanism to request answers from #Belarus on continued serious human rights violations and abuses.

On March 22, 🇱🇺 together with 40 @osce member states invoked #ViennaMechanism - no answer so far from 🇷🇺 to the raised questions on arbitrary or unjust arrests and detentions, targeting of political opposition members, torture and mistreatment in detention facilities and prisons.

Today, on the 1st Anniversary after the report by Prof. W. Benedek under OSCE Moscow Mechanism was presented, 35 OSCE part. States triggered OSCE #ViennaMechanism & demanded #Belarus to provide concrete & substantial answers on human rights violations & abuses in this country.

On March 22, 41 #OSCE participating States - incl. Norway - invoked the #ViennaMechanism , calling for an explanation from Russia on the issue of arbitrary arrests and political repression.

27 days later, we are still awaiting a response from Russia. Their silence is deafening.

Today, Canada and 34 states invoked the Vienna Mechanism in relation to continued human rights abuses in Belarus. We demand that Belarus adhere to its OSCE commitments, and be held accountable for its complete disregard for human life and security. #ViennaMechanism #Belarus

It's been 10 days, and still no response from Moscow. 🇷🇺 has not observed the deadline to answer 41 OSCE member States regarding the #ViennaMechanism invoked due to concerns over 🇷🇺's treatment of political prisoners. Disturbing allegations of torture in 🇷🇺 continue to mount.
