This gave me chills. I’m not Black but when people told me all last yr how SWAY was so urgent, it was bittersweet. I was asked again and again of ny experiences of racism, and as WWKWTS was published media was already moving away to ‘more’ imp topics and it wasn’t trendy anymore.
70 million people voted for Trump despite his racist policies & rhetoric. If we have to break this cycle talk to your children about race & racism, about power & privilege. So critical. If you know anyone who voted Trump let me know & I will send them a copy of this book #WWKWTS
It has been such a pleasure to see #WWKWTS being read, discussed and championed since it came out end of October. So many messages from people receiving it as Christmas present. If you have read it, I would love to hear what you thought.
The cat has peed on a pile of freshly laundered clothes for some reason. And someone called my book WWKWTS ‘perfect’ and ‘like an anti-racism bible’ over on Instagram. So swings and roundabouts really.
Just arrived! Wish We Knew What to Say: Talking to Children about Race by Prof. Pragya Agarwal with signed bookplates. #WWKWTS is a vital book for parents, carers & teachers who wish to talk openly & honestly about race to children foxlanebooks.co.uk/product-page/p…
It was such a huge pleasure to speak with courttia newland for my #podcast WWKWTS. Despite the challenges thrown our way from wifi connections & work schedules we managed to make it work somehow. This is such a lovely chat abt heritage and identity Acast play.acast.com/s/wish-we-knew…
The second episode of #WWKWTS podcast has just landed on Acast. In this I speak with Dr Rangan Chatterjee about how we empower our children to be comfortable in their own identities and heritage and how this has to start from the parents themselves. Do subscribe and listen!
Just did a talk with Microsoft family network on how we can initiate and mobilise the conversations around race and racism. Such excellent engagement and questions! Went well despite this ridiculous cold and cough that I seem to be stuck with.
Exciting new limited edition podcast coming next week #WWKWTS ! Do subscribe. I will be having honest & intimate conversations with some amazing parents, carers & educators about their experiences (& challenges) of talking to children about race. play.acast.com/s/wish-we-knew…
I have a mini-series podcast coming alongside my book WWKWTS: Talking with children about race @dialoguebooks where I speak with parents/carers/educators about their own experiences & challenges of these conversations with children. Hope you can subscribe and have a listen!
Since Amazon is allowing ⭐️ ratings without a review, my books seem to be targeted by people offended by discussions of bias & race. They even gloat & send me msgs after leaving a bad rating. If you’ve read SWAY/WWKWTS pls do leave a review. The last few wks have been shit enough
Talking to children abt race is imp for many reasons but most imp that every child can grow up with a strong unshaken sense of self, while at the same time being aware of their privileges & how to leverage it to be allies. This is what I hope my book #WWKWTS and talks do.
I’ve had so many messages abt what this has meant for people and how much they felt seen. It is always nerve-wracking to talk about racism especially as two brown people at the table but the response has been amazing. And hopefully we can continue this conversation #WWKWTS
What a fantastic review as we round up 2020. Thank you so much for this. WWKWTS will make a fabulous Christmas present for anybody & if’s available from most independent shops + online.
What an event even though it was v late here & I’m still reeling from illness & travel. To recap I see our work as v complementary. Adults reading Sway, Wish We Knew & Layla’s book Me & White Supremacy; enabling children with my picture book, WWKWTS & this book. A complete set!
