I am proud to have voted today to repeal the #WalkingWhileTrans ban.
New York is a state that needs to stand for the dignity of ALL New Yorkers, ALL the time. And today's repeal of this deeply flawed statute brings us one step closer to realizing this reality for everyone.
I'm very happy that we repealed the #WalkingWhileTrans ban.
But as a PRECAUTION I will continue to carry with me the photo of my marriage certificate, because I know that the police will use other excuses to arrest us.
Es muy triste, pero es la realidad. Said. 'Mayra Colon'

Monica Jones was convicted of manifesting prostitution. This is a law in Arizona that allows people to be arrested for waving or talking to a passerby. This law has led to overpolicing and bias and harassment towards Black, and trans individuals.

This amazing win is for Candii, Norma, Raquel, and many other transgender women who have shared their stories & put pressure on Albany.
No one's existence should be criminalized.
Literally got chills, very very proud of Kenny Burgos on his first floor speech & even prouder that it was for standing up for our trans sisters!

The #WalkingWhileTrans ban is stop and frisk for women of color. It criminalizes people for merely existing in public spaces. It’s passed time for New York to put an end to this statute that has unfairly enabled police profiling for four decades
Today is #TransDayofVisibility , and while an avalanche of anti-trans legislation is passed around the country, I am glad to represent NY, where earlier this year we passed the #WalkingWhileTrans Ban. But visibility is not enough: we must continue the fight for full equality.
We are fighting to decriminalize sex work in MA and our first bill (S992/H1800) has a hearing 10am Tuesday. It will repeal 'common nightwalking,' used to profile people, esp TWOC and poor people, as SWers. This law facilitates arrests for #WalkingWhileTrans .
Today NYS Legislators repealed the #WalkingWhileTrans law. This was a discriminatory law that disproportionately
targeted transgender women of color, immigrants, and LGBTQ youth. We thank & honor everyone who was a part of this historic victory! 💪🏽🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
We're still celebrating the repeal of the #WalkingWhileTrans Ban!
For over four decades PL 240.37 has allowed police in New York State to profile, harass and arrest Black and brown transgender women.
This is a big step towards justice! Onward to liberation. #JusticeRoadmap

I am proud to announce that our NYS Senate majority just voted to repeal the #WalkingWhileTrans law. This would not have been possible if it weren’t for the many advocacy groups and organizers who fought back against discrimination towards Black women and trans women of color.
