Only player to play all 10 qualifiers & was joint top scorer with 4 goals thanks to strikes v Finland, 2 v Faroes & a solo effort in San Marino. Started all three games in the Finals.

9 Days to go: Ally McCoist
Returns from nearly 2 & a half years out of the international picture to score the winner at home to Greece, also scored v San Marino. Came on as sub at Wembley before starting & scoring v Switzerland

12 days to go: Andy Goram
Played first 4 qualifiers before injuries saw him ruled out of the remaining games. Despite Leighton keeping six consecutive clean sheets, Goram was selected by Brown to play in the 3 finals games.
Goram sadly died in 2022.

5 days to go: Colin Hendry
Played in 7 of the 10 qualifiers, keeping clean sheets in 5 of them. Started all three games at Euro β96 & was the centre of a solid back three with Calderwood & Boyd

Made Scotland debut in β95 Kirin Cup & played in 2 qualifiers. Came off bench against Netherlands & England in Euro β96 before starting final game against Switzerland at RWB.

13 days to go: Tosh McKinlay
Drafted in at the 11th hour to make his Scotland debut at the age of 30 against Greece, then played against Finland the following month. Started 2 games at Euro β96 against England & Switzerland.

6 days to go: Derek Whyte
Never made a single appearance during the qualifying campaign, drafted into the Finals squad as a result of Alan McLarenβs injury. Didnβt get game time at Euro β96

18 Days: Kevin Gallacher
Two horrendous injuries at Blackburn meant he didnβt feature in the qualifying campaign, but managed to squeeze in enough game time to make the Euro 96 squad. Started the opening game against the Dutch at Villa Park.

15 Days to go: Eoin Jess
Played in 2 qualifiers, scored against San Marino, then came off bench for remaining minutes against England at Wembley. Wasnβt named in initial squad before being drafted into replace the injured Paul McStay

10 days to go: Gary McAllister
The skipper played in 9 out of 10 qualifiers & all three matches at Euro β96. Sadly remembered for THAT penalty at Wembley, but he still fronted up post match when it wouldβve been understandable to hide.

4 Days to go: Colin Calderwood
Made debut in Russia at age of 30 & played in 6 qualifiers without conceding a goal, plus scored his only Scotland goal against San Marino. Played all 3 games at Euro 96. Colin also shared his stories for the book.

14 days to go: Gordon Durie
Despite not making a single appearance in qualifying, Durie started all 3 matches up front (a Scottish Cup Final hat trick helped his cause). Won the penalty at Wembley & had header well saved by Seaman on the same game
