Not only do we have core therapy integrated assistants, we have ward based assistants which are funded by the individual wards. These guys do similar to our assistants but due to being ward based can also help the ward with other tasks as well as therapy ones π #assistantmonth
Our integrated therapy assistants help promote&maintain patients independence by completing Personal Activities of Daily Living tasks (showering, oral hygiene, dressing etc)whilst they are on the wards. This builds confidence&assists with the therapists assessments #assistantmonth
Our band 3 therapy assistants complete competencies in stair assessments so for the non-complex stair assessments (identified by the qualified staff) our band 3 will lead the assessment with the band 2 as the second person π #assistantmonth #helpful #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
Here's Rhian, the band 3 hand therapy assistant, she uses her sewing skills to make compression gloves&garments for patients. She also uses the ultra sound for pain relief and the wax bath for heat therapy. In other words super busy and super amazing! πππππ #assistantmonth
Our assistants have a good knowledge of the local agencies we use to help our patients when they've returned home, part of their role may be to go to the patient and explain what we are advising in more detail π #assistantmonth
#assistantmonth Our assistants can help the therapists with their assessments by completing a pre-admission form with the patients or families. This is an important part of the assessment process in the acute setting and our assistants do it brilliantly πππ #integratedworking
Our awesome band 3 assistant Jenny works with us two mornings a week on the acute wards but then goes to assist with the cardiac rehab classes. She sets up, monitors and advises alongside the cardiac nurses #assistantmonth #MDTworking #physio #occupationaltherapy
Here's Jenny, one of our band 3 assistants; a role for our band 3s is to complete environmental visits for equipment provision, they will visit the patients property and measure the environment for the therapists. #assistantmonth
It's February!!! ππ We have decided to declare it #assistantmonth to show you all how amazing our assistants are and to show you what they do in acute medicine (and some other areas too π) Chorley & Royal Preston Anita Burke Liz McMullin Louise Farrington Claire Granato Debsydo ππΊπ¦β€
Even though it's been very busy we've managed to get up to date with our team performance stats (all very technical stuff!) So here's last month! And as part of #assistantmonth you can see our assistants have been super busy ππͺπ
Another role for our assistants is providing equipment from our stock (assessed by therapists) to show the patient and to demonstrate safe use. Here's Lee Towers with a walking frame caddy. Lee is currently on his first placement for BSc Physiotherapy #assistantmonth
To keep our assistants super busy we have a task book where we put all our 'other' tasks, this can be to order some equipment, to phone a NOK, etc. The assistants check it regularly to keep on top of all tasks #assistantmonth
#assistantmonth our assistants will complete standardised cognitive assessment (at the therapists request) ππ
Another task our assistants do is providing Zimmer frames to the wards for the therapists to complete their assessments! The lovely Lee Towers showing how it's done πππͺ #assistantmonth
Another role our therapy assistants do is they check the department's resus trolley; they check everything is there and in date so it's ready to use in an emergency πͺπ #assistantmonth Anita Burke Claire Granato Liz McMullin Louise Farrington
Also (in non #assistantmonth news) our pre-registration Physio is no longer a pre-reg! She is fully, officially #hcpc registered! Well done Rebekah πππ Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Chorley & Royal Preston Anita Burke Louise Farrington
