Stumbled across this racist cartoon from The Bulletin during the period (via Trove). Seems there was a parade celebrating the fall of the Qing dynasty.

Today's Google doodle is about Victor Chang. When I clicked on it, I found out he was born in China. I had always believed he was Malaysian Chinese (he was shot by one). I think it demonstrates the ties between China, Malaya/Malaysia and Australia.

Found this old family photo of my grandparents with my uncles and one aunt. Thought of you Tim Fawns since you love photos so much. Wanted to connect you with Sophie Couchman but she's left twitter.

Absolutely agreed Kate. I met with the author, explained that the Ironbark player was Chin Kit the teenage son, not his father who was already in Tas. Also that Henry was Oz-born, mother Scots-English. I asked to see pre-publication text but it didn't happen ... sigh

I’m presenting on Chinese Youth Clubs in QLD, 1930s-1940s, for Commissariat Store Museum, Commissariat Store Museum, Wed, Dec 13. Great opportunity to visit this museum, housed in one of Brisbane’s oldest buildings, partly built by convict labour in 1828-1829. eventbrite.com.au/e/wednesday-lu…
