Always love teaching the poetry of #EavanBoland Coláiste Bríde D22 & am saddened to hear of the passing of this wonderful Irish poet. Can’t help but think that her poem “This Moment” is quite apt at this time. “Things are getting ready to happen...But not yet”. Everything takes time.
My latest for Guardian Review, my round up of what has been a great year for poetry books; tonics while we haven't been able to gather at readings &c: theguardian.com/books/2020/nov…
Rest in power #EavanBoland a great women, a great writer, a great educator and an immense poetic voice.

'I wanted to put the life I lived into the poem I wrote. And the life I lived was a woman’s life. And I couldn’t accept the possibility that the life of the woman would not, or could not, be named in the poetry of my own nation.”
RIP #EavanBoland Irish women owe you a great debt.
Now we journey with #EavanBoland to the underworld - what she sees is “beyond speech,/beyond song, only not beyond love” #TheJourney Carcanet Press #PoetryDayIRL Poetry Ireland
I dug this out of the archives on the occasion of #EavanBoland 's passing. She was Writer in Residence at The National Maternity Hospital in 1994. Surely a first for any hospital in Ireland at the time. Illustration by Carmel Benson. Peter Boylan EuroHealth Poetry Ireland artsandhealth.ie The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon

You walk away and I cannot follow‘

A brilliant roundup of this year's poetry books. Great to see Seán Hewitt Rachel Long Caroline Bird - & #EavanBoland Carcanet Press books mentioned here, definite 2020 bright sparks! I'd like to add Rishi Dastidar 🔱🌊's collection, 'Saffron Jack' Nine Arches Press too 💫
Very sad to hear of the death of #EavanBoland . Her poem 'Tree of Life' was often read at our remembrance services and means so much to bereaved parents.
‘One tree is black.
One window is yellow as butter.
A woman leans down to catch a child
who has run into her arms
this moment.
Stars rise.
Moths flutter.
Apples sweeten in the dark.’
#EavanBoland RIP x
Very sad to hear of the death of the Irish poet #EavanBoland
So many beautiful Boland poems to choose from, but here’s my favourite
“I was a voice.” — So sorry to hear that #eavanboland has died. Here’s the powerful last stanza of her poem “Anna Liffey.” I shall miss her wit, her precision, her belief in new voices...
I wanted to share this poem by Eavan Boland. I hope you'll share it, too, and share more of her work.
