Hallgrimskirkja is a Lutheran church in Reykjavik.
It resembles a giant stalagmite or a fairy-tale rock, proudly towering above the small houses of the Icelandic capital.

1. Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavík, Iceland (1986)

A towering church built to mimic shapes formed by cooling lava. It raised eyebrows when unveiled, for mixing Gothic principles with a modern, Expressionist design.

Hallgrímskirkja, Reykjavík - Brutalist Neo Gothic Architecture with an imposing command over the bay. Stunning building, stunning city. Mr Lee was ecstatic seeing the church's magnificent organ, even if it wasn't made of rocks.

this was from last night but this is hallgrímskirkja at night, even more beautiful than during the day. it was named after an icelandic poet from long ago and its architecture is inspired by iceland’s glaciers

Hallgrímskirkja's design is inspired by Iceland's natural basalt lava columns, a distinctive feature reflecting the country's volcanic landscape.
