#HistFicMay 30. No, I’ve never fallen in love with characters. I throw wicked things their way like the almighty but I feel for them & can write them out of trouble. 😇 Here’s Jeanne from my novel set in pre-revolutionary France. A source of support for the MC.
#HistFicMay 31. I am focusing on my current project. I have read & watched many #WWII stories but #Malta ’s part is often overlooked. I’d like to fill that gap & maybe succeed in sharing the story. Then ppl can read the book while on #holiday here.😎Sun, sea & #HistoricalFiction

So, I've been pumping The Last Saxon King for this month. However, the sequel, The Celtic Deception, is coming out in September. And book 3 in the series, The Mongol Ascension, comes out in 2024.
Well it certainly felt amazing updating my bio with my publishing news! #authorlife #BookTwitter #WritingCommunity #AuthorsOfTwitter #HistFic #HistFic May
It's here at last! Welcome to #HistFicMay !
Day 1:
I write books across various ages about characters who insist on having their stories told! I also teach music, and occasionally create pictures. I live in #Caithness with my fabulous family inc. spaniels!

If I were to have a cameo, it would have to be Eleonora, the cook. Who wouldn’t love to be able to rustle up a medieval feast at the drop of a hat? #HistFicMay
Final day #histficmay - my next project. We’ll meet up with some characters from The Rose of Florence about 20yrs later. We meet the infamous Savonarola and The Bonfire of the Vanities. We’re also in Florence in 1966, at the time of the great flood. Promises to be quite a ride!
Day 31 #HistFicMay First draft of my WIP is with my editor. It’s the story of a sixteenth century woman who spent much of her life at this wonderful place Dartington Trust

If I had a cameo, I’d like to be Ovid’s mother-in-law, the real-life Sulpicia. We know of six poems attributed to her, and they are a little racy.

Day 31, the last day of #HistFicMay . My next book is a sequel to The Gilded Cage. It tells the story of young women who appear as minor characters in the previous book. Again, I explore the different worlds of the working class and the elite, and attitudes to #mentalhealth .
#HistFicMay 26 & 27: Similarities with MCs – most (but not all) are soldiers.
Differences – they are facing the brutal reality, mud and chaos of civil war in 17th Century Britain.

Day 30 #HistFicMay
Have I ever fallen in love with my characters?Well, Walter Raleigh Senior is irresistible …
Perhaps his ship looked a bit like this one immortalised in stone at Tiverton church. A figure gazes longingly across the waves…
#Histficmay 26 - Similarity to MC
I'd no idea—so I asked a friend who said I'd things in common with Gideon Lennox, the main POV in my Lord's Legacy series.
'He's painfully honest, unsure of his own worth, loyal to a fault, and kind of awkward in company.'
So there you have it😉
#Histficmay d31 2nd #WIP is the backstory of the readers' fave bad boy Sir John 'Jack' de Laverton described by a reviewer as'half knight in shining armour half seductive rogue' incl how he came to know Richard Neville Earl of Warwick #Kingmaker

#HistFicMay 27 - Difference to MC
Where do I start?
Just about everything you can think of!
One is that most men of any social standing in 17th Century England would have been able to use a sword to some degree and therefore my MC can.
I can't!

#HistFicMay 30 - Falling in love with characters
No, but I thoroughly enjoy writing them if that counts.
My readers tell me they do though and I've fallen for other people's characters in books I've read.
Perhaps after six books, I just know them a bit too well in the making.
A triumphant occasion for the young Otto. But enemies are lurking, even in the heart of the family...
