Meet Ava Marie DuVernay. She is an American filmmaker and former film publicist. She is a recipient of a Primetime Emmy Award, a NAACP Image Award, a BAFTA Film Award and a BAFTA TV Award, as well as a nominee of an Academy Award and Golden Globe.

In 1971, at age 17, Winfrey won the Miss Black Tennessee beauty pageant. She would also go on to compete in the Miss Black America pageant later in the year, but lost the competition to Florida’s Joyce Warner.

Hirsi took on climate change after seeing pipelines built in Minnesota and hearing about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan in 2014.

Hirsi also co-founded the US Youth Climate Strike.
