On the outside, the removal made absolutely no sense. Those involved at MCFD said there was a good reason.

MCRS & MCFD responded to a motor vehicle incident outside MCMC, with help from the State Police for traffic control. MCFD then extracted the patient and assisted MCRS in treating the patient’s injuries.

The BC Ombudsperson’s report on youth confinement makes it clear — once again — that MCFD needs a complete overhaul. We’ve seen successive governments excuse, apologize, and allow the status quo to persist. It’s time for a new philosophical approach within the ministry.

The Greens are right about this. Many people don't know that MCFD social workers aren't actually social workers, they are called 'child protection workers' because MCFD has an exemption from registration with the college

Each year, MCFD spends $160K for each child in their care. Yet the Take a Hike Foundation which provided over 1800 hours of counselling for youth last year, gets no consistent funding out of this government’s $89 billion budget. This government is spending money in the wrong places.

Approximately 600 fifth graders from Carteret Co. Public Schools got to interact with Morehead City Police and Fire-EMS at the Steer Your Career vehicle fair. MCPD had the boat, dive trailer and patrol cars on scene. MCFD displayed Engine 3, an ambulance and the safety house.

Currently, not all social workers in BC are required to register with the College of Social Workers, allowing some individuals, particularly those in MCFD and other departments, to practice without adequate oversight.
