🧵The receipts are in on my #nativewoodland #plantation now in its 20th growing season. Oak circumference grew at a average rate of 2.4 cm per year (from a sample of 60 trees). Quite good growth, but the 20 year mortality rate is also surprisingly high at ~ 40%. 1/4

On the left are Scots pines we planted as bare-roots 3yrs ago. On right is a growing tip. This stunning native coniferous tree is fast growing and hardy. In Brehon law they were classed as the ‘Lords of the Woods’. We’ve planted 900🤩 of them on Wildacres! #trees #nativewoodland
