Exactly 10 years ago. Sergey Kokurin. Ensign. The first soldier killed in the russian-Ukrainian war.

He was killed by the occupiers with two shots - in the head and in the chest - during the storming of the 13th photogrammetric center in Simferopol.

For today's #FossilFriday , I'd like to introduce you to the first fossil from Qafzeh that I've studied: Homo VI.

It is disappearing fast lately although the ice block in the background will likely last more.

Forgot to take it in 2022, although in some way is retrievable with our photogrammetric survey.

Compare this 3D scan with the photogrammetric model of the Rammer from last week. Both sets of data came from the same artifact but only this one can be 3D printed.

What are some of the other differences you can see between the models?

Iron Hammer!

This iron hammer was also recovered in 2002 and is now being conserved with our friends The Mariners’ Museum and Park . Since this is a 3D scan and not a photogrammetric model there is no photorealistic texture. However this lets us produce the data that allows for 3D printing!

Do these saw marks in Karnak show an overcut? Shadows can be misleading, and a photogrammetric measurement provides another insight. What seems to be an overcut is probably only a continuation of an overlapping glyph.
