Truly excellent talk from Sam Jones about this increasing patient group - young people with mental health crisis. These distressed young people are falling in the cracks in the system up and down the UK. #rcemcpd

The key to effective RAT is getting patients out of RAT quickly to assessment areas, SDEC, primary care or home.

If this doesn’t work, all that’s achieved is duplication and over investigation / diagnosis / treatment.

And it’s knackering. #RCEMcpd

Back at #rcemcpd and Ian Higginson 🌈 talking with typical passion, righteous anger and a little hope for possibly the MILLIONETH time on crowding. Crowding kills and harms patients, destroys the wellbeing/ morale of staff and has a knock on in the system. We have been SHOUTING for years

The bottom point is the one that boils my p***. Constantly.

Accountability. Of others in the system.

EM is accountable for everything. When other services don’t work / stop working / seem like a “hobby” where is the accountability?

I loved #rcemcpd - so much to learn. Also made me reflect on the 20%+ doctors in EM who are SAS and how our roles and job titles continue to confuse and muddle - that we are inadvertently excluded or omitted or belittled. Work to do EMSAS The SAS Collective

But actually I don't really hold the single organ / disease teams responsible.

Executive teams are responsible for enforcing accountability. And the evidence seems to be that they avoid doing this. Because it's too hard or unpalatable.

Until they do, we will fail. #RCEMcpd
