We have been busy building our own 3D shapes this morning and looking at their properties. Lots of collaboration, resilience and hard work. Well done team! #sjsbmaths

We were put to work today for #WorldMathsDay ! The builders needed our help calculating the area and perimeter of our playground for our new multi-use games area. We accurately measured the length and width and then used our arithmetic skills to finalise measurements. #SJSBMaths

Reception have been exploring the composition of 6, 7 and 8 using part part whole models. Once we found one way to partition a number, we tried to find a different way. We noticed that the whole remained the same. #SJSBEYFS #SJSBmaths

After reading this week’s brilliant book, Handa’s Surprise, Reception have enjoyed exploring fruit with all of their senses. After describing the taste of the fruit, we created prints to show how we can add pieces of fruit together. #SJSBEYFS #sjsbMaths

#UseYourMathsEyes 👀 To celebrate #WorldMathsDay , Reception have been using their maths eyes to find maths in the world around them. After being given a numicon piece, we went on a hunt to find that number in our environment. #SJSBmaths

To celebrate #WorldMathsDay , Class 8 have been learning about Archimedes and 3D shapes. We built our own 3D shapes and discussed how many edges, vertices and faces they had. We also investigated which 3D shapes would create the best tower and why. #sjsbmaths

In today’s maths lesson, we used a 3 metre piece of string to make equilateral, isosceles, scalene and right angled triangles. We thought carefully about their properties and how to check whether sides and angles are equal. Brilliant team work and reasoning Class 8! #sjsbmaths

Cubes, cuboids, triangular prisms, square based pyramids: we’ve been building them all today in Maths! We enjoyed naming, describing and reasoning using our knowledge of a range of 3D shapes #SJSBmaths

Reception cut open a pumpkin today and explored what we found inside. We each had a slice and had to count the seeds. We then stuck our seeds onto a bar chart. We needed to use our careful counting skills. We also matched the numicon to the amount. StJoseph StBede RCPS #SJSBMaths
