Third time this week having 1995 Right Bank #Bordeaux This amazing Trotanoy #pomerol is all a mature #wine should be. Cigar box, cedar, anise, truffles, gamey aromas. Red fruit, dates, plums, leather. Subtle tannins. Very fine #merlot and CF. Drink now or keep.

Château Trotanoy, Pomerol, 2006. Red fruit. Nose of fine French oak with some green pepper. Some sediment. Medium bodied, not heavy. Mushroom, truffle, black olive notes haven’t appeared yet. Neither has the persistent acidic finish. Give it 5+ years to develop more complexity.

In my dad's later years, I'd take him out to dinner & we'd share a wine from a vintage w/ last 2 digits of his birthday. So, for his 78th we had '78 Haut-Brion, 79th: Certan de May. His 80th was more difficult, so I brought '85 Magdelaine & '75 Trotanoy & told him to do the math.

Brilliant tasting last night. Église Clinet 2001 just stunning, as was Petit Mouton 2010. Trotanoy 2004 delicious but still closed… thanks Edinburgh and Sarah Kemp x

I was supposed to attend a Right Bank tasting right before New Year's, but it was postponed due to Covid concerns. Ended up hosting one last PM to make up for it. Everyone brought a bottle or two & we ended up doing well. Not pictured: '01, '89 & '85 Trotanoy & '82 Magdelaine.

Have a Bordeaux dinner tonight with friends on the calendar. The host is a wonderful chef, so am looking forward to his food, as well as '90 Pichon-Lalande, '81 & '79 Trotanoy & several players to be named later. What an era that was in Bordeaux!
