My late mother-in-law came to London from Guyana in the 1950s as part of the #WindrushGeneration .
When her husband Clem passed, the rooms in their house became repositories of memory.

There’s a guest room at the top of the stairs with a 70s lamp and tiger print bed cover; but in the three decades I’ve known Barbara, no guests have stayed.

Final day.
So many people attended Barbara’s funeral gathering back at the house, sharing stories of Georgetown and London.
We ran out of glasses and drank rum and wine from plastic cups, and we remembered her.

Dignified, elegant and beautiful - the #NationalWindrushMonument is a moving tribute and reminder of the great contribution and influence the #WindrushGeneration have made to our national culture and heritage. #ThankYou

There’s a cabinet in the dining room with photographs, silverware and crystal vases.
When we brought her fresh flowers, she’d ask: “why do you waste money on them?”
