Sad to say that former BBC NI political editor Stephen Grimason died last night. He was 67. He was also a former Director of Communications at Stormont with the NI Executive. Stephen will be deeply missed, but always loved, by family, friends and colleagues.

Mark Simpson So sad. Stephen was a wonderful, inspirational colleague and friend, a mentor to so many of us. He will always be remembered for that Good Friday afternoon in 1998, but he guided us all on so many political stories during those years. Thoughts to all his family at this time.

The death of Stephen Grimason is a massive loss. Great, great journalist, what he didn’t know about NI politics wasn’t worth knowing. But nothing quite became him like the way in which he faced death. Head on, no sentimentality and black humour to the end. Inspirational…

The best of political journalists there’s ever been, who got the greatest of scoops. He blazed the trail and kept the path lit for all those coming up behind him. A brilliant, funny and kind man. Rest in peace.

Desperately sad to hear this. Impartial to the core, tenacious and above all a brilliant human being.
