My latest article for October's Derbyshire Life covers Ilkeston's Charter Fair - with references to The Goodies and Kenny Everett shoehorned in. Unlike the Goose Fair, it's back on in 2021: Wednesday 20th - Saturday 23rd. charterfair

My latest folklore article for the August edition of Derbyshire Life (out now) is about the annual Plague Commemoration held on the last Sunday every August to remember the outbreak if the deadly disease in the village in 1665-6. It's on again this year, today at 3pm.

My latest article for the June/July issue of Derbyshire Life magazine covers the Parwich Oddfellows parade which took place this weekend in a sign of calendar customs making a tentative post-pandemic comeback.

My article for February's Derbyshire Life covers a very well known custom, Ashbourne Shrovetide Football - it's not happening this year for obvious reasons, which is HUGE (even World War 2 couldn't put a stop to it...)

From this month's (September, out now) Derbyshire Life magazine I'll be contributing a regular monthly feature on local folklore and customs - does this mean I can now legitimately fill in official documents with 'folklorist' as my occupation?

Today in 'school' we made a miniature well dressing using flowers and natural materials from in and around the garden and left it next to a nearby spring.... most of this year's actual well dressings are cancelled.

A label inside a book (formerly belonging to Lambeth Libraries) I withdrew from stock at work just before we went into Lockdown: 'Do not return to the library, without the permission of the librarian [sic], a book which has been exposed to any infectious disease.'
