Our final Egypt item is the ever-popular Somerset Light Infantry: this is the 1st Battalion band, photographed while stationed at the Kasr El-Nil barracks in Cairo...doggo doesn't look too happy, probably because he was left of the naming chart. Rude.

These photos are from the album of Private Phillips of the 1st battalion Somerset Light Infantry while he was posted in Egypt...our catalogue says 1920-1930 so he could have been in the area when the tomb was opened!

Arthur Cook ended his diary on 11th November 1918 - during his recovery he was surprised to meet Capt Osborne who he had helped rescue at Preseau - Osborne's last words to him had been 'I'm finished' & Cook had been informed he had died of wounds

Arthur Cook ' The electrifying news came that the Germans have asked for an armistice! I don't know whether to be pleased or otherwise. I have been waiting for a nice 'Blighty' wound for years. What I would not give to be with my Battalion now!'
