On the importance of understanding data: “A lot of the time, you say ‘maternal mortality,’ and people don’t know what that means. Giving them a framework will hopefully tug on heartstrings and move people to action.” -Wendy Miller, Fulton County Board of Health

Rashan Knight, KP Georgia Director of Women’s Services, emphasizes the impact of prenatal health on birth weight: “Doulas can really help in that aspect. Pregnant women may not trust their healthcare provider, doulas encourage them to follow up & follow through on prenatal care.”

Doulas,professionals who support the mother before, during, and after birth and pregnancy, play an important role in healthy births. “We have to be mindful in not thinking they are a bandaid, but they definitely are part of the solution.” -Tamara Mason, March of Dimes, GA
