La France de c'est déployer la CRS 8 devant la nuit, et rendre inaccessibles les accès aux rues autour de l'université alors que les manifestants ont quittés les lieux depuis 2 heures. 📽️Clément Lanot

Very interesting perspective here. Bit less true in the UK perhaps? Or just as much? Much less true in France I’m pretty sure, v. different publishing scene and very conservative curricula.

This essay is such a breath of fresh air. An example of Eugenio Montale’s “superior dilettantism”. Suffused with an air of intellectual freedom, that stems from a disinterested pleasure in simply *reading poetry* – and talent for intelligent, reasonable and fair evaluation.

Yes I think provided you have a bookshop close by, it is quite effective -- if you need something quickly, you either have to pay extra for the Amazon delivery or buy locally. (If you're not in a rush, you can wait until you have €35 of Amazon book orders and avoid the fee.)

What looks like quite a big protest at Sciences Po in central Paris today, though it seems they've sent the police in again now.

La préfecture de police de Paris a envoyé des tonnes de CRS à Sciences Po où les étudiants se mobilisent pacifiquement en soutien à la Palestine.

Fascinating and honest read (link to it in Victoria's bio) reviewing the latest Poetry Review. As a reader I've almost always felt alienated from most of the mainstream poetry magazines. I'd always thought I was the whole root of the problem, so it's interesting to read this.

Having a third baby in France was fascinating from this point of view. So much less pressure to breastfeed. Quite a lot of (well-meaning) ignorance about what breastfeeding actually involves in the early days, even from e.g. midwives and nurses in special care.

Struggling to keep up with a small flood of comments and emails after my piece on The Poetry Review yesterday. Very grateful for all the engagement, much of it very thoughtful, and will try to get to everyone eventually! (Link in bio if you are interested.)

A request to anyone in north Norfolk, or who knows north Norfolk. Monkey Puzzle trees - where can they be found in places with public access, or within viewing distance of public access? I'm asking on behalf of someone with a particular interest in Araucaria Araucana - thank you!…

At SciencesPo in Paris the riot police were sent in yesterday to clear an encampment that had just been set up, but this morning there's a new blockade.

Happened to be teaching this today and thought I'd share as it's . Such a perfect example of a sonnet. My favourite poetic form. For me it's a little firework display of techniques. Amazing what Heaney achieves here in 14 lines.

Poets, poetry readers - the refreshing critical honesty of this is much overdue.
