Sandeep_59 Eduardo R Argaiz NephroPOCUS Joel M. Topf, MD FACP Matt Siuba IMCrit Nick Mark MD lasix is not nephrotoxic.

if you give so much lasix that you cause hypovolemia, then *hypovolemia* may be nephrotoxic.

if you give lasix to treat systemic congestion and promote euvolemia, that may improve kidney function.

thanks for attending my Ted talk.

Yes! is primarily about safety, but not at the expense of accountability and performance. A great overview from The Irish Times on the research behind psych safety and its benefits in the workplace...

1 in 3 academic physicians report they are considering leaving their institution within 2 years. Burnout and lack of professional fulfillment were associated with intention to leave; a comprehensive approach will be needed to reduce physician turnover. ja.ma/3GKmRKN

Being drawn to conspiracy theories is more than a failure of critical thinking. It's a sign of feeling threatened and cynical.

170 studies, 150k+ people: the strongest correlates of conspiracy beliefs involve doubting others' intentions.

What looks like low IQ may be low trust.

One of Amelia Crabtree’s many wonderful illustrations from my 📕 … and such a great way to show how a culture that makes it safe to talk about can coexist with high standards!

What do patients fear most about operations

‘Will I wake up?’

report from Royal College of Anaesthetists answers this.
-who will
-who is at risk of not
-what are the numbers?

Eg cardiac arrest during all surgery
1: 3000

Fit & well, elective surgery
Cardiac arrest <1 : 10,000
Death <1 :…

Received this from a former Cardiothoracic ICU fellow who worked with me in the past, now an intensivist in a different institution.

Someone who I worked with is making a difference somewhere.

This made my day.

Conclusions

Periop cardiac arrest

-not rare for anaesthetists
-common causes deemed to be cardiac, anaphylaxis, airway
-most survive resuscitation -later outcomes uncertain but probably not bad

The NAP7 registry will tell us much more

If you could showcase one of your failures in a museum, what would you choose?

I love how DC's MuseumofFailure embraces shedding light on failures instead of hiding them -- a key part of . Stop by the exhibit thru Dec 10: museumoffailure.com
