Rape culture is the social environment that allows sexual violence to be normalized and justified, fueled by the persistent gender inequalities and attitudes about gender and sexuality. Naming it is the first step to dismantling rape culture. Rape is never the victim's fault.

People need to STOP using phrases like 'huyo alitoroka Mathare' 'must be mental illness' etc. STOP. It's cringeworthy and insensitive. If you wouldn't say 'si umekonda, ulitoroka cancer ward?' 'your tummy is big, twins or triplets?' then stop using illness as an insult.

One of our guests read this book. It was a great guide to her enlightenment and recovery. I do like how Karyl makes everything easy to comprehend. It is not an easy read but be assured that it does get easier as you progress.

You may not be loudly celebrated for breaking generational trauma like people in new jobs or who have earned degrees do. Mostly because emotional labour often goes unrecognised. So this is for you. Celebrate yourself for facing the chaos. Center your communities on healing. πŸ’™πŸ•―
