Our office has been working to support new immigrants in Queens.

With MALIKAH and volunteers from the community, Elle, Mariela and Rama from my office have been completing benefits applications & locating resources to make sure 600+ of our new neighbors get on their feet.

Watching atrocities from afar can make you feel so powerless. I’m so grateful for the space created by Jews for Racial & Economic Justice, MALIKAH, & The Legal Aid Society during today’s bystander intervention training.

We learned how to protect ourselves and each other, which is the Queens way.

TY to NY Senator Jessica Ramos for hosting last night’s community safety training! JFREJ led bystander intervention training, MALIKAH led self-defense training, and The Legal Aid Society led a free speech rights training. Jews, Muslims, New Yorkers…we are one & many, and safer together!

Yesterday, our Environmental and Climate Justice Organizer Stephanie Fox stopped by MALIKAH in Astoria for training session on our NYC Climate Dashboard! 🌎

The class learned about climate organizing and how we track indicators of the climate crisis for New Yorkers.

MALIKAH x MoMA PS1 Intergenerational Storytelling Installation 🖼️

Co-designed with 12 women from Little Egypt and North African communities in Astoria, Queens, who weave together stories of migration and belonging.

New York Muslim Organizing Collective is proud to champion S6584A alongside MALIKAH and many other advocates.

We will continue to advocate for MENA data disaggregation until our communities are seen, counted, and heard.

Counting Middle Eastern & North African New Yorkers as White in state demographic data is an insult to these communities and makes it harder for them to access equity-based resources. Glad we were able to pass my bill in the Senate to improve representation for our MENA neighbors

BREAKING NEWS: Bill S6584A passed the New York State Senate unanimously. MALIKAH is proud to lead with Sen. Mike Gianaris and so many others on this bill.

This is a critical step for 500,000+ Middle Eastern and North African New Yorkers, giving our communities a stronger voice in state data.

1/2 We launched a community safety space today MALIKAH. We launched on Steinway st. Steinway st. is where our community has been stopped and frisked and profiled and surveilled. Steinway is where women in our community feel unwelcome because of how male dominated it is.
