i was one of the 49 yale students arrested this morning.
ypd mobilized at 6:30 as we slept peacefully in our tents.
we stood together and joined our voices in song as they handcuffed us one by one.
many of us have now rejoined the protests.
we refuse to be silenced.

The same logic deployed in both Hong Kong and now across various US universities to portray extremist fringes as representative & reason for smearing broader social movements and their underlying grievances. The difference is that one was embraced, another condemned.

Today, 47 pro-Palestine students urging Yale to divest from military arms manufacturers were arrested for violating Yale policy on outdoor space use. They will be referred for Yale disciplinary action, which could include suspension.

UPDATE: NHPD tells organizers that as long as Yale protestors in the street remain peaceful, there will be NO FURTHER ARRESTS, effectively granting permission to keep occupying.

I can confirm that even faculty IDs are deactivated at Columbia today, and that it is impossible to access the buildings without (possibly) security escort.

The university's public safety department has no business, whatsoever, trying to shut down Columbia's student radio station.

Just learned that Columbia University has locked down every building on campus (deactivated swipe access) and that faculty wishing to visit their offices today require a campus police escort to gain access.
