City road safety policies are clear. The community has done tireless work. Public consultations on the staff plan are complete. And the need is urgent. Now it's time for local councillors to deliver. Dianne Saxe - Toronto City Council Ward 11, UR Josh Matlow
Converting a 6-lane downtown motorway into a safer road with lower speeds should be easy, right?
Yet, it's taken 7yrs, an exhausting community effort +20 supportive groups to get action.
On Mar 27, we'll count on councillors @diannesaxe Josh Matlow to see the project through.
We will be counting on City Council's road safety + climate champions to lead the charge, beginning at the IE committee on Mar 27. Dianne Saxe - Toronto City Council Ward 11, UR Amber Morley James Pasternak Anthony Perruzza Jennifer McKelvie Mike Colle

On Mar 27, the city will vote on converting a short stretch of Avenue Rd to a more people-friendly street after 65 yrs as a dangerous 6-lane motorway. Some interesting charts in Matt Elliott lastest newsletter (this one is free to view, btw). Tracking the city's intersection traffic counts - the heaviest pedestrian (and overall) last year was Yonge and College. Queen West, Kensington Market, Cabbagetown most pedestrian areas.

'even though Avenue Rd is designated as an arterial, more people (including residents of seniors’ homes, apts above shops + in the burgeoning # of residential towers) live along this 2.1-km segment than on any local side-street' Josh Matlow Dianne Saxe - Toronto City Council Ward 11, UR
