Our deer management team have had some great conditions for carrying out deer counts on the west coast of Scotland recently. Knowing how many deer use an area is important to determine how to manage populations sustainably 🧵 1/3

🌳 #WildGarlic , also known as ramsons or wood garlic, is starting to carpet the #woodland floor.

🔍 Look for long green pointed leaves with a smooth edge and small, white flowers with six petals on a thin stalk.

You might spot pretty dog violets in bloom around #ScotlandsRainforest . These flowers are similar to sweet violets but have no smell. They're important for butterflies like the pearl-bordered fritillary, which feeds on the flowers, and lays eggs on the leaves.

If you're passing through Oban this spring, you should pop into Dunollie Wood and experience #ScotlandsRainforest . This beautiful hazelwood is covered in lichens and mosses, and carpeted with bluebells. Do remember to keep to the paths! buff.ly/3QPsLQO
