Bonnet, silk taffeta, probably American, c1860. Via LACMA collections. #bonnet #1860s #dresshistory #fashionhistory
Just a few of my highlights from the Tate's #SargentandFashion exhibition this morning. It was lovely to bump into a former colleague whilst in the gallery and reminisce about conserving Ellen Terry's beetlewing dress! #fashionhistory #exhibition
Gauzy white puff sleeves feature both in this surviving #1820s dress and a slightly earlier fashion plate, drawing on Gothic fictions and Tudor aesthetics here. Self decorated hems and gathered bodices are replicated too, from image to object KSU Museum #fashionhistory
Friday treat time. Probably French, silk dress dated 1865-70. More images here via The Met: metmuseum.org/art/collection… #dresshistory #fashionhistory
Friday Treat Time and a beautiful blue and cream silk beaded evening dress by British couturier #NormanHartnell . Dating to the 1960s, this simple sleeveless sheath dress showcases Hartnell’s continued mastery in designing glamorous and glittering gowns for a couture clientele.
#FridayFrocks #SpringFlowers : A primrose yellow silk brocade gown, c.1760s. The pattern features floral springs and baskets. The gown was probably worn with a matching petticoat, which has not survived. @johnchasephoto
This gorgeously romantic green dress with rose detail from Ladies Cabinet Magazine, 1838. I certainly feel like I need top-to-toe coverage this chilly #spring #FashionFriday
