Sad to learn of passing away of former Tanzanian MFAffairs Bernard Membe. Condolences to his family. Worked with him at African Union especially on situation in Ajouan (Comoros) & deployment in March 2008 of 1 african military force to assist in restoring constitutional order.

Privileged to receive H.E. Pekka Haavisto, Minister of Foreign Affairs of #Finland and #EU Envoy, with whom I discussed the #humanitarian situation in the #HornofAfrica . He also paid tribute to the memory of our heroes and heroines, who paid the ultimate price in #AU peace missions.

I underlined the urgent need for #dialogue and consensus between Somali political actors to ensure credible #elections . I also called for unity of purpose between stakeholders, taking into account the multidimensional role of #AMISOM in our joint support to the people of #Somalia

I had a productive phone call with Mr. Jan Kubis #UN Special Envoy on #Libya . We agreed on the way forward for a close #AU - #UN cooperation in supporting the libyan parties & underscored the imperative of working within #Berlin process Framework & avoiding multiplicity of tracks.

I welcome the initiative of President Mohamed Farmaajo in calling for a consultative meeting in #Dhusamareeb , as part of ensuring the upcoming elections in #Somalia are peaceful, credible, inclusive and free and fair.

I encouraged African Ministers of Defence at the Third Extraordinary #STCDSS to adopt the #AU Doctrine on #PSOs and to fast track the deployment of the African Standby Force #ASF & ad-hoc security arrangements to address all situations of crises and natural disasters in #Africa
