In 1978 at least someone was concerned about brain health and contact sports. Would be funny, except it isnt...imagine the lives and futures thst could have been saved by making better decisions and mitigating RHI,

🏉Concussions occur and it’s crucial players are managed back to the game appropriately.

🏉But the KEY issue is driving down the number of non-symptomatic (sub-concussive) rattlings of the brain which come with playing the game.

Reducing playing/training load is critical.

I have to disagree with Sam. Great player
but how can you trust the doctors who allow you to return 7 days after a brain injury? No DTI scans. 23% of 44 elite players in imaging study av age 25 had white mater damage. Required changes still not made🧠🏉

Concussions can be induced by direct or indirect forces to the head or body, and may appear in many guises, as in the case of whiplash injuries.

So always remember 'The Big Five' objective symptoms:

If in doubt, sit them out.

It’s sensible to mitigate concussion risk.

But to effectively protect players against the risk of degenerative brain disease we must limit their exposure to impact.

✅Effective squad rotation
✅Less contact training
✅Protected rest periods
✅More robust concussion protocols

Was reminded today of this 20 minute red card shocker.

SANZAAR ruled this ugly collision a mid-range offence.

Player was banned for 3 weeks…..

We’ve not seen any evidence of a culture where onerous punishments will be issued to offenders.

This is a good thing.

We must reduce exposure of players to contact to mitigate the risk to their long term brain🧠 health.

NFL BiP time is a measly 11 minutes over 17 games = 187 mins.

Prem Rugby it’s circa 35 mins and players can rack up 30 full games = 1,000 mins +.

Crazy.
