Common Carpet and a Grapholita jungiella (happy to be corrected) seen at Badbury Rings today. A warm still morning walking through the bases of the rings but no sign of butterflies apart from one Green Hairstreak. Other folk were saying the same🙁

The ones around here tend to have false eye spots on their hind wings, and I've always thought of the 'rubbing' as something instinctive they do to fool predators. In other words, to bring the false eyes to life in a way. Just a theory.

Our first Green-veined White in our garden at Harman's Cross today. This brings our species total to 8 this year. A very quick walk around the woods behind St Stephen's Church, Pamphill this morning hoping the bluebells were still glorious ,and they were.
Birds singing but hiding, my 1st Spk Wood this year and a few Grey-patched Mining bees also firsts.

Spotted this white butterfly in my garden while having lunch indoors. It kindly hung around while I grabbed my camera , put some shoes on and went outside and down steps to photograph it from a different angle. It was worth the effort, my first Green-veined White this year.😊
