Imagine, just for a moment, for staff across NHS and social care that the leadership priority was to โjust focus on colleagues being really happyโ .NHS England NHS Employers The King's Fund The BMA The RCN NHS Confederation NHS Providers
When discussing concerns on the expansion of the PA workforce & role, I have heard stated:
โConcerns are only being raised by a vocal minority on SoMeโ
โThose complaining have not worked with PAsโ
โMost teams who include a PA work well togetherโ
โPAs help with training timeโฆ
I ๐ฏ accept the caveats that there is still work to do, and the issue isnโt resolved.
However I was glad to be part of the Royal College of Physicians team who attended the meeting which has resulted in NHS England stating clearly:
โPAs are not doctors, and cannot and must not replaceโฆ

โPAs are not doctors, and cannot and must not replace doctors.โ The letter acknowledges the important conversations between the college, elected councillors and NHS England. We continue to listen to our elected representatives, fellows and membersโ voices on this. 3/3
We welcome this letter from NHS England, making clear its position on PAs.

Welcome update from Royal College of Physicians President -post meeting yesterday with Council
A key line for attention:
'This college has never believed PAs are a replacement for doctors, but rather as supplementary to the multidisciplinary team (MDT)'

Taking a minute before teaching today to sit quietly by the Covid memorial at Royal College of Physicians the birdsong is beautiful & I forget Iโm in central London. I lost my beautiful Aunty to Covid & work with many doctors that still feel the trauma, we are thankful for the NHS ๐ #NHS75
