It was a great pleasure to be involved in this new paper in Nature Communications where we looked at different scenarios for the future of cement in the Global South, which will be the main driver of demand in the coming decades

Great visualisation of why we will blow straight through the 1.5C threshold within the next decade. The better question is whether we will continue accelerating or whether we can slam on the brakes quickly enough in the coming decades to avoid passing 2C.

Nice piece by Marina Hyde on the (intentional) proliferation of disinformation on this site. Sadly obvious since Elon Musk acquisition. Hence my own usage on here is way down and I no longer feel able to direct my students to use Twitter/X as part of my class on TechPolicyatCambridge

Excellent work by Environmental Audit Committee led by its Conservative chair Philip Dunne holding Government to account and asking for point-by-point response to the many logical inconsistencies generated by the recent net zero announcement. The best sort of parliamentary scrutiny.

In 2018 Boris Johnson said f*** business

On Monday, Liz Truss said scrap net zero targets

Today Rishi Sunak has done both in one fell swoop

PM totally incoherent. It’s nonsense to keep saying he’s still committed to net zero by 2050 if he’s abandoning the steps to actually achieve it. It’s like saying he’s committed to putting out the fire at the same time as letting down all the tyres on the fire engines

Eerily similar to Liz Truss' remarks yesterday, it is striking how the current Government, which is nominally pro-markets and pro-business, really doesn't seem to understand markets or business.

Terrible analogy and not how the electricity market operates. The Conservative government has banned onshore wind since 2015, which is the cheapest form of electricity. If you did want the coffee analogy, this is like banning cheap filter coffee and forcing everyone to buy Costa!
