Admiring plant architecture...

Often found carpeting damp woods, hedge banks and meadows, the blue-purple flower spikes of bugle are a beautiful spring sight. A great early source of nectar, this flower is loved by insects.

DWT's two tree nurseries, Meeth Quarry and Broadclyst, use two methods to grow trees - cell growing, which uses a compost cell to grow, and bare root growing, which uses prepared outdoor beds.

After receiving a DWT Wildlife Garden Award, Florence wanted to give something back. Selling plants at the end of her drive, Florence shared the bounty from her garden and raised funds for Devon's wildlife!

Iron in the beaverโ€™s diet helps fortify their teeth, providing them with the strength to chop through tree trunks and branches. This high iron content also provides them with a distinctive orange hue to their gnashers.

the word plankton comes from the Greek words for โ€˜seaโ€™ and โ€˜wandererโ€™?

There are two main types - phytoplankton are microscopic, single cell algae and zooplankton are animals. Both are essential parts of the ocean's food web.

DWT's Wildlife Champions day saw more than 70 children learning about our oceans and planting 300 trees. It's thanks that DWT can help these young people and form wildlife councils at their schools.

Scrapes are shallow ponds, less than 1m in depth, which hold rain or flood water seasonally but stay damp for most of the year. These were made by DWT's team as part of their work.

A case of mistaken identity... ๐Ÿ

It can be hard to tell apart some bees, wasps, and other flying insects, especially at a glance. Take a look at some of the most commonly mistaken species in the UK, and how to identify them!

Willow tits need wet woods, excavating nest holes in damp wood in places like the fringes of Dartmoor.

They've suffered an 81% decline. East Dartmoor Landscape Recovery Area projectโ€™s efforts to increase wet woodland in this corner of the moor should help. (Pic: Adam Jones)

Much like the cuckoo, this oil beetle is a 'nest parasite', relying on other animals to nurture its young. This one is digging a burrow so it can lay up to 1,000 eggs. The larvae will hitch a ride on solitary bees and camp out in their nest, feeding on eggs, nectar and pollen.
