'Brushing aside the airy vision—as well as the pomp and circumstance—this whole effort is a naked attempt to forgive as much debt as possible before the courts have a chance to strike down the program as unconstitutional.'

Biden makes clear there’s really now no alternative to scrapping federal student loans.

At this point, huge chunks of taxpayer “lending” won’t be repaid. The funds will instead subsidize grifters & bloated college bureaucracies.

Let’s put a stop to this. forbes.com/sites/frederic…

Set aside the whole age/infirmity thing as well as Trump’s manifold failings.

On the merits, I find it extraordinarily difficult to take seriously those who suggest that a vote for Biden in 2024 is a vote for civility, the constitutional order, or moderation.

People who believe in the infinite money tree fascinate me.

If I had such a heterodox and counterintuitive view of the world and just witnessed a major case study counter to my view, I might be a bit less condescending to those with a more mainstream view.

Just a reminder for those who believe interest on fed. student loans are predatory and about profits

The government loses $$$ from federal student loans

“Only the federal government could devise a predatory loan that loses money.”

You don't have to like PPP loans to be honest about them:

They were created by Congress to be forgiven as the economy was locked down at the outset of COVID.

Biden's student debt cancellation is unilateral executive action to cancel loans that were supposed to be repaid.

The White House needs to stop this.

PPP reimbursed salaries for the cost of a govt-imposed shutdown. It was called a 'loan' only bc those later found ineligible would need to repay it.

You cant take cheap shots like this and then also claim the moral higher ground on civility.

Reminder that 'the banks' have not made federal student loans since 2010, and bank-originated federal loans were not eligible for the original one-time cancellation plan or the SAVE plan. Begging cable news producers to do some basic fact-checking. Community Notes

'Biden has transformed the federal direct loan program, enacted with the intention of solving a narrow problem, into a giant drain on the US Treasury.'

In a new piece at AEIdeas, Beth Akers breaks down the Biden administration's latest attempt at student loan forgiveness:

Sounds expensive and will likely keep inflation and interest rates higher for longer.

I still don’t have a sense of distribution, but I think most of the big beneficiaries must have grad degrees.
