Council President Payne makes the key point I have not seen in coverage: Drivers in the lowest quartile in the DLI report average just over $10 an hour, vs the report average of $13.XX. The Council is responsible to ensure 'not an average wage, but a minimum wage.'

'Our goal is not to ensure a guaranteed average wage; our goal is to ensure a guaranteed _minimum_ wage.' Elliott Payne - Minneapolis Ward 1 puts on his engineer hat and teaches the City Council a lesson (not just about data, but about workers and dignity, tbh).

This isn’t about guaranteeing an average wage for workers, it’s about guaranteeing a *minimum* wage.

My comments today about our ordinance making sure Transportation Rideshare workers are able to make the City’s minimum wage. We are continuing to work with the State as they advance the issue at the legislature.

The Minnesota Labor and Industry report released today shows that metro area rideshare drivers are making a median $13.63 and mean $14.48 per hour. The Minneapolis minimum wage is $15.57 per hour.
