All reproducible and open: github.com/ibartomeus/Cro… Having a dynamic paper is a dream come true. It shows science is a process and focuses on improving our answers. I hope is a new way to publish general questions.

Do you use logistic regression? If so, you’ll want to read the thread below.

⚠️ Warning: Memes, charts, , and practical advice ahead.

I'm excited to share that I published a first version of my Statistics 4 Ecologists book with University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing. You can now download a (FREE) pdf version of the book here:

Folks! I have two postdoc/analyst openings in my lab that are really exciting. One focused on old-growth forest conservation design (based at UNM) and another on diagnosing drivers of pinyon jay population declines (based at Cornell). Please share!

JOB ALERT: If you like 1) being on the leading edge of research-implementation, 2) coordinating large collaborative teams, and 3) helping restore lake ecosystems by controlling aquatic invasive species... THIS is the job for you!! MAISRC

Bringing the flexibility of GAMs and the convenience of mgcv to step selection functions is exciting!

This allows movement and habitat selection to be modelled as non-linear, time-varying, spatially-varying,
individual-specific, etc. Check out Figure 1 for an overview.

My first PhD chapter is out as a preprint!

We formulate step selection functions as GAM-like models, which can be fitted in mgcv. This allows for the inclusion of non-linear effects/interactions, as well as individual-level and spatial random effects!

We are looking for a PhD student, to work on statistical models for animal movement and fisheries science!

Feel free to email/DM me if you're interested or have any questions (either about the project or about life in Halifax).

Our step selection analysis review now in MEE!

We describe choices of 'control' points through the lens of numerical integration, to unify them and explain why some work better.

Control points are often a numerical tool with no biological interpretation

📣Our 🆕 paper Causal Inference is Not Just a Statistics Problem is out! Malco`lm()` Barrett (Now on Bluesky and Mastodon), King Ranch @[email protected], and I show that you can have 4 data sets with identical summary stats & visuals but very different data generating mechanisms-statistics alone can't tell you what to adjust for!
