I was absolutely chuffed to spot this PURPLE HERON at Testwood Lakes this morning.
It flew in from the SE at c. 1135. Briefly landed but out of view then took off <1min later heading N. It looked to drop down just N of M27

Curlew Sandpiper-Normandy Lagoon this week. A rare bird in the Thames estuary during spring migration but seems to pass through the Solent marshes area most years in the spring. Just over 3hrs at #LepeCP this morning produced 68spp for BirdTrack. Highlights were a grounded migrant flock of Bar-tailed Godwit, Whimbrel, White-tailed Eagle, Great Northern Diver and a steady passage of Swallow with a few Sand Martin. A sneaky 3hrs at Lymington-Keyhaven Nature Reserve this morning added 5 to my Patchwork Challenge 10km year list.
Always a thrill to find your own Garganey, with other additions Reed Warbler, Common Tern, Bearded Tit & Lesser Whitethroat.
Also present 2 Little Gulls, lingering Scaup, Green Sand etc

Osprey going west along Lee On Solent this afternoon coast was 👍 plus 2cy Little Gull at Hill Head and plenty of Wheatear’s and Dartfords on Browndown today.

Earlier today, RSPB staff & local volunteers erected the seasonal Ringed Plover nesting fence at Calshot in the Solent. This year (year 2 at this site) a small but important part of the beach will be closed to allow Ringed Plovers to nest. 1/
