I was talking yesterday with someone about the way that all police recorded crimes start out as allegations until they have been investigated (albeit we tend not to describe eg burglaries in those terms). Here, an alleged murder was found to be lawful self-defence.

The forensic regulator has informed scientists we should adhere to x, y & z at a huge cost but there are 3 failures that happen in a most big cases:

1. Poor disclosure - very rarely right first time.
2. Disclosure very late so everything done in a rush.
3. Funding issues.
