In a collaboration between ManjushaChintalapati ,Laurits Skov , Alba Bosoms Mesa, Mateja Hajdinjak , Benjamin Peter and Priya Moorjani , we've journeyed into our shared history with Neandertals by analyzing over 300 genomes spanning 50,000 years. A thread 🧵🧬

23andMe Research & Therapeutics Amy Williams And our preprint is live! A great collab w Amy Williams and 23andMe Research & Therapeutics, led by my amazing grad student Cole Williams ! “Phasing millions of samples achieves near perfect accuracy, enabling parent-of-origin classification of variants.” bioRxiv doi: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
New Preprint by Yilei Huang and with Shai Carmi:
Using IBD tracts in time transects boosts inferring effective population size trajectories. 📈🧬
We released this as a tool called TTNE, well-suited for the increasingly large aDNA time series.
doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…
ancIBD update available! ⬇️ Yilei Huang implemented two new modes:
1) Calling IBD on the X
2) Calling double IBD (e.g. in full siblings)
We hope that helps to resolves some aDNA pedigree riddles 🦴🧬🕵♀️

DNA says you’re related to a Viking, a medieval German Jew or a 1700s enslaved African? What a genetic match really means. The short answer: Usually not as much as you might think. Read more in this The Conversation piece by Shai Carmi & Harald Ringbauer. theconversation.com/dna-says-youre…
Found a shared genomic segment (IBD) of a modern genome with a Medieval individual? It does not imply an exceptional genealogical connection, really!
