A very sad day for UK arts today as our wonderful friends and colleagues at English National Opera give their final performance before company-wide redundancies take effect tomorrow and cuts to Welsh National Opera announced too. Arts Council England and those responsible should be ashamed of themselves. 1/2

Last ever curtain call of this incarnation of English National Opera before the orchestra etc is disbanded. Coincidentally my 2 boys’ (8 & 11) first ever opera (Magic Flute). They were enthralled and thrilled. Those who have let this happen to ENO should be ashamed.

Spare a thought for chorus, orchestra & music staff at English National Opera, for whom a new era begins today, one of reduced contracts & huge uncertainty, both professional & financial. ENO won’t be seen at the Coliseum until next season, depriving London of great opera thanks to Arts Council England

Appalling news for Welsh National Opera orchestra. Awful that this is even being contemplated – Arts Council England has a lot to answer for – this is the direct result of ACE's removal of funding for WNO's English touring programme. Let's hope for a fast resolution.

It’s a sad day. I am in admiration for what you and Graham have achieved. My predecessor Christopher Robinson and I are of the view this was an excellent venture. The motto in our country seems to be ‘the problem of success is success’. Excellence is now deemed inappropriate. 🤨

SJV TO BE DISBANDED

We were devastated to hear yesterday that the college has decided to disband SJV at the end of this academic year.

We are so proud of what we have achieved and will miss singing together every Monday.

Very excited to say that we recorded the sequel this week - Symphonies 8 and 9 and the 2nd Violin Concerto with Harriet. Wonderful music and BBC NOW played their socks off.

Next stop is Symphonies 11 and 13 next year.
