On this special day, let's take a moment to express our gratitude to the small-scale farmers who play a vital role in growing our food and sustaining our communities.

The situation in #Haiti is alarming - but International Fund for Agricultural Development will continue its development projects and collaborating with partners to deliver goods and services to rural people.

Why? Because for lasting change, we cannot forget about long-term development even as we respond to urgent needs.

Access to food is a human right.

As the hostilities in Gaza continue, people are facing potential famine.

Humanitarian organizations must have unhindered access to people in need wherever they are.

#COVID19 was catastrophic for rural people and its effects still linger, including high prices for critical inputs like fertilizer.

Rising costs means rising hunger, social unrest and migration.

To truly end hunger and weather future crises, we must invest in rural resilience.

When it comes to achieving #ZeroHunger , we are failing.

600 million people will be chronically malnourished by 2023 with rural people most affected.

I met with global food experts to discuss progress on SDG2 and advocated for rural people who can turbocharge food production.

After years of conflict and environmental degradation, #Somalia has turned a corner.

But rural development still faces many challenges, including #ClimateChange .

International Fund for Agricultural Development's new programme will support smallholders so that they can sustainably increase their incomes and resilience.

When managed sustainably and equitably, water can be a source of peace and prosperity.

It is also the lifeblood of agriculture, the major socioeconomic driver for billions of people.

Peace and water are inextricably intertwined – and as the world’s climate changes, this connection will become ever more prominent.

Today I spoke at Financial Times #ClimateCapital Live on the need to support rural communities.

Investing in climate hardy crops & building connections to global value chains can help smallholders remain viable.

#ClimateChange is making water ever scarcer - and strategically important.

Chairing my first UN-Water meeting, we approved a UN-wide strategy on water and sanitation. This will involved a strong collaboration between UN agencies, NGOs, civil society and the private sector.
