You never know what stories or poems you write are going to be your best or most well-received. To a certain extent, it's not something you have much control over. What you do have control over is yourself as a writer. Keep writing, keep inventing, keep creating.

My goal is for Apex to be a welcoming venue for all writers. I do my best to make the submitting process easy and accessible, and if this was a barrier to you submitting to Apex, I'm very sorry and hope that you will feel comfortable to send something in soon.

REJECTION THREAD: To celebrate hitting 1000 submissions since re-opening in late January (and since I haven't done one in a while) I thought it'd be a good time for one of these. Why do I reject what I reject and what lessons can be learned from it? Let's dive in.

We love the cascade of submissions you give us. It's incredible how one story can surround us with mermaids in tropical seas, while another can take us to the edge of the universe. Speculative fiction can provide such a range of settings, all so beautifully written.

Please tell me your arthropod stories published in 2023! I’m planning a thing!

Spiders, crabs, butterflies, wood lice, lobsters, wasps, moths, centipedes, and all manner of fictional arthropods too!
