Every second of these videos is truly tragic and hard to watch. But they offer a rare glimpse of what so many, especially those with mental illness, experience. The horrors in Rikers Island exist in part because cases like this rarely make it to the public eye.

No amount of money — not even $28,000,000 — can bring justice to Nicholas Feliciano’s name.

Another stunning Rikers report by the unmatched Jan Ransom. Important, upsetting and I really hope it will change things.

Uniform brass and the correction unions did not want me to suspend any of the officers of captains involved in this case.

The fight to do the right thing here was unbelievable. As it so often was.

This was one of the worst investigations I ever handled.
